QATAR'S REPORT ON THE MECHANISM FOR THE UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW (UPR) TO BE TABLED, 7TH SESSION OF UPR WORKING GROUP, GENEVA, 8TH-9TH FRBRUARY.
Qatar UPR Report, to be discusssed at 7th UPR Working Session, Geneva, 8-9, Feb 2010Doha: (Raya Newspaper 18/1/2010): Raya newspaper in its issue this morning (18/1/2010) carried a report edited by Anwar al-Khatib in which he stated that al-Raya has obtained a copy the report on the universal periodic review mechanism of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, which was prepared by the National Committee entrusted with the task to be tabled for review by the Council in its 8th session in Geneva on 8 February.

The report reviewed the Human Rights situation in Qatar in light of the significant legislative and institutional developments and in public awareness the country is undergoing in this respect.

Under the Section subtitled, "Challenges", The report underlined that the promotion and protection of human rights is a strategic choice of the state and as such forms the backbone of the comprehensive reform policy, in the constitutional, economic, social and cultural development fields adopted by the government since His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani - may God protect him –assumed power in the country.
